A university, wrote Pope St. John Paul II in Ex Corde Ecclesiae, is “an incomparable center of creativity and dissemination of knowledge for the good of humanity.” One of its essential tasks is to preserve and share knowledge so it is accessible to all. This Archive and Museum fulfill that mission by safeguarding the history of the Archdiocese of Miami and making it available for exploration, study, and inspiration.
The establishment of the Archbishop John C. Favalora Archive and Museum on the campus of St. Thomas University opens the door for students, scholars, and the wider community to engage with the rich heritage of the local Church. Here, historical resources illustrate the vital role the Catholic Church has played in South Florida over the past half-century, through its ministries, leaders, and the people it serves.
These archives stand as a living link between the Archdiocese and the University, fostering research, encouraging dialogue, and offering visitors not only a wealth of historical knowledge but also a compelling visual journey into the life of the Church in the Archdiocese of South Florida.
