Archbishop John C. Favalora
Archive and Museum
A university is… “an incomparable centre of creativity and
dissemination of knowledge for the good of humanity”. (Ex Corde
Ecclesiae, Pope John Paul II, 1990). A major task of a
university therefore is to organize knowledge so that it is
easily accessible to as many people as possible. Critical to the
mission is the preservation of history and the exploration of
the past.
Establishment of the Archbishop
John C. Favalora Archive and Museum on the St. Thomas University
campus provides the ability to share vast historical resources
with students, scholars and the wider community and further
enhances the relationship between the Archdiocese of Miami and
St. Thomas University. The history of the Archdiocese of Miami
is replete with important and fascinating materials that
demonstrate the importance of the Church in South Florida for
the last 50 years. These archives provide an enormous body of
knowledge as well as a pleasant visual experience.
